The Run Is Wide Open
The South Shore of Long Island is loaded with large stripers, particularly on the west end, while the eastern Long Island Sound is just starting to see big migratory fish arrive. The Hudson is in full spawn, with bass staging in the river before some peel back to saltwater and the rest hold into June. Connecticut shorelines from Norwalk to New London are getting flooded with fresh fish chasing bunker and river herring. Rhode Island’s herring run is bringing Narragansett Bay alive, and Massachusetts has gone from “first reports” to wide-open action across Buzzards Bay, the Cape’s south side, the Canal, and Cape Cod Bay. With the new moon ahead, the next week looks like the biggest yet.
