Strong Structure Bite Caps Off July
Week 14 of the Striper Cup wrapped up the month of July with consistent action across the Northeast. Striped bass were keyed in on structure such as rips, reefs, and rocky points, especially during moving water. The Cape and Islands bite remained steady, with topwater plugs producing early and late, while deep-trolling and live eels worked best midday. In Long Island Sound, bunker schools attracted larger fish, and surfcasters in Rhode Island found stripers pushing into the wash around dusk. The NY Bight is very sharky with huge pods of bunker, but anglers fishing inshore bays found plenty of slot-to-overslot fish.

Striped Bass Forecast – Week 15
Looking ahead, the July 31 reports suggest that striper fishing should remain productive heading into early August. Across New England and the Mid-Atlantic, baitfish remain abundant, and schools of bass are still active during low-light hours. On Cape Cod, the flats and channels continue to hold fish, while Buzzards Bay and the Sound are producing bites on mackerel, sand eels, and bunker. Further west, dusk tides have been best for surfcasters, and anglers fishing deep water are finding success snap-jigging bucktails and slow-crawling soft plastics.
Target structure during moving water, and don’t overlook the night bite—it’s been producing the biggest fish of the summer so far.
